This spectacular wet meadow and willow transect provides wet feet, spectacular views, a rich bird community, and a great opportunity to observe Willow Flycatchers! The most abundant species we recorded were Spotted Towhees, Red-winged Blackbirds, Yellow Warblers, Song Sparrows, and Bewick’s Wrens. Nine conservation priority species have been recorded – some, like Willow Flycatchers, breed there; others, like sage grouse, will come down to use these wet meadows, particularly as conditions dry up in the uplands. Perhaps the most unexpected species: singing Black-chinned Sparrow(s) in 2015 … there had been a big snowfall up in the Sierra earlier, which perhaps had pushed them into the area.
