The contents of this web page are based on the major revision of the Nevada Bird Records Committee (NBRC) Review List undertaken by Chris Elphick, with assistance from numerous Nevada birders, in 2001, and include an additional major revision carried out by the full committee in 2009 and a further major revision resulting from changes in the review list criteria in 2018. The original publication of this list in Great Basin Birds 4(1), 2001, included a very informative discussion of the 2001 revision effort and history, elaborately documented by Chris Elphick. Nevada birders who assisted in the effort are credited there by name.

Note: For taxa that have ever been considered full species by the American Ornithological Society, or are currently considered full species by other national or international ornithological societies, the committee may choose to review records for those taxa even though other conspecifics are not rare in Nevada. (Example: "Eurasian" Green-winged Teal.)

Sightings of all species on this list require documentation. Species (other than introduced species) that are not on this list and that do not appear on the official Nevada Checklist also require documentation. (Introduced species which are not on the official Nevada Checklist should not be submitted except in the special circumstance where that species is on the ABA checklist and is also on the official checklist of a state adjacent to Nevada.) To document your sightings, use the online submission form on this website or send your documentation as email to the NBRC Secretary at:
  Bohman --AT-SYMBOL--  gbbo  --DOT--  org
You can also send documentation through conventional mail to NBRC c/o GBBO, 1755 E. Plumb Lane, Suite 256A, Reno, NV 89502.

* Indicates regional exemption for that species. Common Black Hawk sightings from Meadow Valley Wash/Rainbow Canyon and Tricolored Blackbird sightings from the Carson Valley are exempt from review, all other reports of these species should be submitted to the NBRC.
