Register to Bird
Step 1: Form a team (maximum: 5 members) or register as a solo birder! Give your team a name, bad puns are encouraged! You can also participate as a “Backyard Birder” and bird from home while creating a yard bird list for the duration of the event. Check out the Bird-a-thon Details page for participation rules and event deadlines.
Click here to view the 2024 Competition Categories and decide how you want to compete!
Step 2: Go birding and collect donations! Choose one 24-hour period between May 3rd-13th to spot as many birds as you can. Alternatively, if you participate as a “Backyard Birder” you may create a yard bird list for the duration of the event. Please share this event with your friends and family! Let them know they can make a donation to the overall Bird-a-thon or support your team directly through our website.
Step 3: Once your bird count is complete send us an excel spreadsheet with your total species checklist to outreach@gbbo.org. We also encourage you to report to eBird.
All offline pledges and species lists are to be returned to GBBO and must be postmarked no later than May 21st to be counted towards awards. Mail to Great Basin Bird Observatory ATTN: Birdathon 1755 E. Plumb Lane #256 Reno, NV 89502 .
