Ned Bohman will lead participants on this field trip with exclusive access to Parker Ranch. Located on private property at the north end of the Smoke Creek Desert, approximately 10 miles west of Gerlach, NV, the ranch offers ideal habitat for migratory birds. The Smoke Creek Desert has a number of great birding locations, but the trees and pond at Parker Ranch are some of the most premier. Habitats like this serve as oases for migratory birds to stop over and refuel for their long journeys. This time of year is ideal for finding uncommon and rare species, as well as expected migrants that have not been around since last summer. Neotropic migrants such as Western Tanagers, Black-headed Grosbeaks, vireos, warblers, and flycatchers of many species are returning, and will be moving through our area during this time. This should be an exciting trip, there is no telling what we may find hiding in these trees!
Please RSVP to outreach@gbbo.org, and travel arrangements will be made amongst attendees. This is a remote location, approximately 2 hours from Reno. Planet X Pottery is holding a sale and showing in this weekend, only held twice a year. This is a great opportunity to check out Gerlach, go birding in a novel location, and check out exquisite handmade pottery. RSVP today, space is limited, you don’t want to miss this!
