GBBO’s Outreach Biologist, Ned Bohman, will lead participants on this walk around Crystal Peak Park. Participants can plan to spend about 3 hours walking a maximum of 1 mile. This will depend how quickly we move and how many birds we are seeing.
In this area, the Jeffrey Pine forest habitat of higher elevations meets lower elevation mixed shrub plant communities. In addition to these habitat types meeting, there is riparian habitat along the Truckee River that flows along the edge of the park, as well as a couple small ponds. With such diversity of habitat in a relatively small space, we can expect to see a fairly large number of bird species.
During this walk, Ned will focus on explaining why the birds are doing what they are doing, and why we are seeing the species we are seeing. By this point in the year we should be seeing Turkey Vultures and Tree Swallows returning for the breeding season!
There are limited spaces available, so reserve yours today! Please RSVP to outreach@gbbo.org. We will meet at the lower parking lot for Crystal Peak Park, in Verdi, NV; where the red pin is on the image above.
