In this installment of the Great Basin Bird Observatory’s earbirding series, Ned Bohman will lead participants on a walk at Rancho San Rafael Park, located very close to downtown Reno. We will emphasize bird vocalizations, what they might indicate to other birds, and how we can use them to watch and find birds. Along this walk we are likely to encounter wintering species of Sparrow, Goldfinch, Thrushes, and Kinglets; as well as many familiar resident species. This time of year birds are primarily making call notes, which can be very tricky. So get ready to learn the difference between a chip and a chak! Parks like Rancho San Rafael are great places to look for birds in the winter because of fruiting trees, large conifers, and water sources.
Please RSVP to outreach@gbbo.org if you are interested in attending this walk.
