Bodie Hills Pinyon Juniper BioBlitz

  • Bodie Hills Preserve 73340 U.S. 395 Bridgeport, CA, 93517 United States (map)

Join GBBO in the beautiful Bodie Hills of the Eastern Sierra Nevada to learn about Pinyon Juniper ecosystems! These forests are the dominant forest type in the western United States, and home to many iconic and sensitive wildlife species. We have a full schedule for the weekend, winding down on Sunday. Come for 1 day or for the whole time!

During this event we will be bioblitzing all taxa in the Pinyon Juniper woodlands of the 185-acre Bodie Hills Preserve and the adjacent Masonic Mountains. We will be tallying observations of everything, but birds will be the focus. We will have an iNaturalist project set up to collect observations, but that won’t be required.

Thursday night when people arrive, there will be a GBBO-sponsored barbecue with burgers, dogs, and veggie burgers. On Friday afternoon, we will have a 2-hour Science session, highlighting ongoing work, with presentations on the Pinyon Juniper Resilience Program, Woodland Structure and Pinyon Jay occupancy by Cole Lysgaard, and GBBO’s Pinyon Jay Community Science Program by Ned Bohman.

There won’t be any scheduled events on Sunday, but folks are welcome to stay Saturday night and leave at their leisure Sunday morning.

Please RSVP to Outreach@gbbo.org if you are interested or want more information. Once registered we will send a more detailed schedule of events. This event is free to all participants, but we are suggesting donations of $20 to support these efforts.
