GBBO’s Outreach Biologist, Ned Bohman, will lead participants on this walk at McCarran Ranch. Participants should plan to spend about 3 hours walking a approximately 1 mile. This will depend how quickly we move and how many birds we are seeing. McCarran Ranch is a large property, with public access at Mustang Rd (west end) and Wildhorse Canyon Rd (east end). This field trip will be accessing the property from Patrick Rd, at a point not open to public access, 3 miles east of Mustang and 1 mile west of Wildhorse Canyon Road.
GBBO has been conducting surveys along the Truckee River for many years. Ned has conducted many of these surveys, and will share some of that perspective during the walk.
The primary focus of the walk will be explaining why the birds are making the noises they are making, and why we are seeing the species we are seeing. By this point in the year Turkey Vultures and Tree Swallows will have returned for the breeding season, and Cliff Swallows, Western Kingbirds and other early migrants will be on the move!
There are limited spaces available, so reserve yours today! Please RSVP to outreach@gbbo.org. Parking is also limited, depending on the number of attendees, we may have to carpool. Meeting location TBD.
