GBBO Winter Lecture Series: Hybrid presentation: Multi-scale Pinyon Jay habitat selection and holistic conifer management along a dynamic ecotone in the eastern Sierra Nevada

Carl Lundblad, currently a researcher with the United States Geological Survey (USGS), will be presenting on his work with Pinyon Jays, habitat selection, and conifer treatments. The talk will start at 6:00 PM at Rosewood Nature Study Area.

A native of New Mexico and the desert southwest, Carl Lundblad is a life-long naturalist, outdoorsman, active birder, and a Biologist with the U.S. Geological Survey’s Western Ecological Research Center. He first came to Nevada while working at Ash Meadows NWR. He earned a Masters degree studying Yellow-eyed Juncos at the University of Arizona, a PhD studying Burrowing Owls at the University of Idaho, and worked with Greater Sage-grouse as a postdoctoral scholar at Oregon State University. He has expertise in sagebrush and pinyon-juniper ecosystems and in the bird communities of the western United States. He is broadly interested in understanding species’ habitat needs throughout their annual and life cycles to achieve effective conservation of wildlife.
