Avi Kwa Ame National Monument was designated by President Joseph R. Biden on the Spring Equinox in 2023, so this 2025 bioblitz event is the perfect way to celebrate the second anniversary of the area’s protection as a national monument.
In 2024, the Great Basin Bird Observatory conducted a LeConte’s and Bendire’s Thrasher research and monitoring project at Avi Kwa Ame National Monument. In this study, we identified more than 30 occupied desert thrasher territories within the borders of the monument. We have lost funding to support this research, please consider donating to this fundraiser to support desert thrasher research.
With this event, we are launching ThrasherQuest 2025! This is a community science event, where you can help us fill important knowledge gaps about desert thrashers.
