This Fall, GBBO staff will be offering another two-day bird-banding workshop at the McCarran Ranch. The McCarran Ranch is a Nature Conservancy property located along the Truckee River, about 20 miles east of Reno. GBBO has been banding and monitoring birds at this property for over ten years. Bird-banding is a widely used research technique that requires much skill and practice to perfect. At this workshop, participants will learn all about banding birds, from the technical skills of extracting birds from nets and taking their measurements, to the big picture questions of why banding birds is valuable to conservation and why researchers have been doing this for decades. There is a suggested donation of $50, however the workshop will be free to all attendees. We are encouraging undergraduate students and young professionals to participate.
If interested, please RSVP to outreach@gbbo.org. Due to capacity limitations, there are a limited number of participant spaces available that will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
