Earbirding with Ned Bohman

  • Carson River Park (map)

In this installment of the Great Basin Bird Observatory’s ear birding series, Ned Bohman will lead participants on a walk at Carson River Park, located east of Carson City. We will spend around 3 hours, walking 2 miles in total, along an out and back trail that follows the river. We will emphasize bird vocalizations, and learn how to differentiate between some of the more common species. Along this trail we are likely to encounter resident species such as Wood Ducks, Bushtits, and Black-billed Magpie; as well as many species of migratory warbler, vireo, and flycatcher. This time of year birds are primarily making call notes, which can be very tricky. The more distinct songs are reserved for earlier in the year when birds are defending territories and looking for mates. Fall migration along the Carson River is a fun time, and we could be surprised with unexpected migrants!

There are limited spaces, reserve your spot ASAP by sending an RSVP to outreach@gbbo.org!
